Translation Memories from the MFA – 2020

This corpus is the result of work carried out by the EEA Translation Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department for European Affairs and International Trade. The corpus comprises translation memories containing translations of parts of the European Union legislative acts (Acquis Communautaire).

The material consists of files with English original text, and translations into Norwegian Bokmål or Nynorsk, respectively. The material have been set in a valid XML, properly encoded and lightly proofread. There are two separate files for Nynorsk and Bokmål, both in the TMX 1.4 format (a variant of XML). There is a predominance of translations into Bokmål:

- English - Bokmål: 1.024.535 TUs
- English - Nynorsk: 64.168 TUs

A TU (Translation Unit) is a translation pair with an original text and a parallelized translation, and corresponds to a more or less meaningful linguistic unit, typically a clause, a heading etc. A TU may also consist of a single word or several clauses.

There is an overlap between the version from 2015 and the updated version from 2020. The 2020 version contains parts of the 2015 version, and some of the translations appear to have been changed slightly. The older version is still available for download in its original form.
